Tuhopp was located in Canton, a flourishing port/city in South China. Prior to the Treaty of Nanking (1842), export trade was confined to the port of Canton.

Tuhopp was an early maker who worked primarily in the Georgian style. He is thought to be one of the earliest known makers for the American market (Chait 168).

The mark of Tuhopp has been observed invarious different forms. It is known to exist in the following forms:
