Leeching was located in Canton, a flourishing port/city in South China. Prior to the Treaty of Nanking (1842), export trade was confined to the port of Canton.

Maker Information:
The firm of Leeching was well known for high quality mugs (particularly the dragon handled ones) and standing cups. This firm was also known by contemporaries as skilled jewelers. The mark of Leeching is typically seen written out in full or with the letters LC.

The mark of Leeching has been observed in various different forms. It is known to exist in the following forms:

Leeching was known to employ a number of different workshops/artisans. Known workshop/artisan marks are as follows:

  Hui Chi, Hui Ji, or Ooi Kei     Te Hsing, De Xing, or Tak Hing

Form: Dragon handled mug decorated with warrior scence on stippled ground. Shield shaped cartouche reading "EDOUARD / 13-10-48." Most likely given for a christening or birth on October 13th, 1848.
Dimensions: 4 inches tall, 4 inches wide including handle
