Chinese Export Silver Presentation

Kwong Man Shing was located in Hong Kong, an island/port in South China which was ceded to the British in the Treaty of Nanking (1842) and became a British colony.

Maker Information:
Not much is known about KMS other than he worked in Hong Kong at 24 Queen's Road and Canton in the late 19th century and early 20th century. Most of his observed pieces are in Chinese taste and design. The spoon located in the item example section below gives us clear evidence that KMS, who some have previously suggested, worked in Canton as well as Hong Kong.

The mark of KMS is known to exist in the following forms:

Known workshop/artisan marks:
KMS was known to employ different workshops/ shop marks. These workshops/ shop marks are as follows:

 Ji or Kei   Zhuo or Ch’euk 
 Shang

Provenance: From the collection of Will Tomlinson
Form: Souvenir spoon with bamboo and bird engraved handle and gold gilt bowl engraved "Canton" in cursive. Back of spoon with handle engraved "CanTon." This spoon confirms that KMS indeed had shops in Canton as has been suggested by some scholars.

Form: Bamboo bordered picture frame with repousse dragons amongst clouds on a stippled ground with blank cartouche.
Dimensions: 5.25 inches wide by 7.5 inches tall
