Maker Information: Jardines is included on this website because of its mark observed on the salts (Item #1- Jardines) below. The mark probably not intended to signify Jardines as a retailer of the silver, but rather the owner. Jardines (Jardine, Matheson & Co.) was founded in Canton on July 1, 1832. Jardines was a major trading company that traded in a large number of items including, but not limited to, tea, silks, and opium. In the mid to late 19th century they were the primary competitor of the British East India Company. Jardines still exists today and is engaged in numerous business endeavors. More information about Jardines and its history can be found here:

Marks:
The mark of Jardines is known to exist in the following form:
| Chinese characters reading: "I Ho, Ji He, Yee Wo"
怡和 |

Known workshop/artisan marks: Jardines were major traders and not retailers, so this mark was probably put on silver commissioned by Jardines as company silver for use within the company. Therefore, there are no known workshop/artisan marks.
